Joel Parko-free as a dog

Australian Prodigy Joel ‘Parko’ Parkinson has established himself as one of the most prominent figures of his generation. His seemingly effortless style combined with his technical skill set have seen him evolve into one of the sport’s most dominant forces while earning nine ASP Dream Tour event victories after climbing the ranks alongside fellow ‘Coolie Kids’ Mick Fanning and Dean Morrison.

In 2009 Parko entered the season as a man on a mission, clinching three event victories in the first half of the year in what many thought would be a landslide victory for Parko’s first ASP World Title when midway through the season rumors of an ankle injury on a boat trip shortly followed with the ASP World Title slipping from his grasp to the likes of close friend, Fanning.

In 2010, Parko returned faster and fitter than ever before he was sidelined for the majority of the 2010 season with a serious laceration to his heel. Parko’s return to competition last year was nothing short of miraculous however, as he marked his comeback to competition by posting a perfect 10 on his first wave of the ASP PRIME Reef Hawaiian Pro before winning the event and eventually his third-consecutive Vans Triple Crown Title. With Parkinson fully recovered for 2011, he’ll be a serious contender for this year’s ASP World Title.

Aside from his obvious talent as one of the world’s best surfers, the quiet Australian is also a proud father and dedicated husband and his commitment to family and his career show a maturity well beyond his years.
